V2

Web killer is the code name for V2. V2 is a foundation technology that was built to take us beyond the World Wide Web. Building a solid foundation on the internet is the single most important thing we can do on the internet today. The problem with the web is that it doesn’t have the plumbing we need in order to build more useful applications online. In fact anything and everything that can be digitized and automated should and will be moved online. The web does not have the plumbing to make this a reality. The dot com meltdown was the first sign that web technology wasn’t the path to internet convergance. However, the web is a very important first step. That’s why we call it V1; it is just a first step.

A gentleman by the name of Tim Berners-Lee designed and built the web. The problem is that he never designed it with sophisticated human interaction and commerce in mind. He never anticipated the bustling online world that his little application would morph into. His goal was just to design an application to allow scientist to interact online through a web of linked documents and data. A very noble cause but it falls far short of our needs if we ever intend to take the internet to the next level.

Because time and technology does not stand still, we all know someone, some place at some time or another is going to figure out a way to advance online computing. That time and place is here and now.

V2 was built from the ground up to support what we call the Cyber World. Its main purpose is to build a foundation on the internet so we can start building the plumbing (infrastructure) that is missing from the internet. Once we have the infrastructure frame work in place, there will be no limit on the types of applications that we can build online. Indeed, strap on your seat belts because everything that can be digitized and automated will be made available online. We believe this will cause a second internet gold rush similar to the dot coms but on a much larger scale.

Have you ever wondered why we aren’t doing simple things like voting online? Why are we still making trips to the DMV for new license tags? Is this not the information age? Why can’t we see every available product in any store and just order it? Why don’t I have every record of information (dental records, medical records, credit history, etc) about myself at my own fingertips? Why do I need a search engine to experience the web at all? Why is so called spam such a big problem? Why is it so hard to protect my kids from online predators? On the web, these problems are nightmares that will never go away. It's simple, what we need  is structure and securtiy, not more web pages and websites. The hard part is how do we make that happen? Yes you guessed it, V2.

We realize that it will take some time for internet users and developers to get use to the idea that an alternate world besides the World Wide Web can and will exist. HTML is to the Web as V2 is to the Cyber world. We call them base technologies because without them, neither the web nor the Cyber World could be built. HTML is really not a true base technology, it’s just the only thing that comes close. It’s really just an interface and a mechanism for linking documents and data..

As time goes on we will share more details about the V2 stack. Here is what we envision for the future.

Fig #1 Fig #2
Figures 1 and 2 illustrates the importance of a base technology (V2 or HTML) to launch and support an online world. Without a base technology, it is impossible to create a new and distinct online world. Html can not compete with V2 because Html is flat and 1 dimensional, where V2 is 3 dimensional. This means that V2 addresses the 3 important obstacles that have thwarted the evolution of the internet. That is why, for Html, it is impossible to manage complexity of any sort. It was never built for advanced online human interaction. It is just a mark up language for rendering and linking web pages and nothing more.

Fig #3
This figure illustrates the affect the Cyber World will have on the World Wide Web. It will shrink considerably as the demand for more sophisticated V2 services steadily increase.
